Exercise 2 – 50 Word Stories

“Convalescence”

Jimmy stares with disbelief at the sight of his emaciated looking leg, it is after all the result of being in a cast for six months. The fracture on his shin bone is long gone, the orthopedic subsequently smirks at him : “Perhaps you don’t even have to see me anymore.”

“The Puppy”

The puppy sits at the precipice of demise, struggling with its terminal ailment. Rienna watches with sympathy as it seems to be mutilated by a subtle blight. Subsiding howls pervade the atmosphere, manifesting its agony. Its craving for freedom beckons a thought of hers. She stabs it with a knife.

“Plague”

An epidemic plague starts to spread, Kobath attempts to navigate through the mist-shrouded city. The pungent smell of decomposition dulls his senses. As silence strikes fear within him, he impulsively shouts “Is there anybody here?” He begins to sweat profusely, regretting his previous action. A ghoul like figure emerges.

“Betrayal”

Hatred and anxiety feeds Tom’s volatile temperament. One of his adversary starts the war by hurling a broken beer bottle. This exasperation prompts him to rush forward impulsively. His last vestigial of anger diminishes as someone incapacitates him. His faithful companion delivers the coup de grace on him with a knife.

“Promiscuity”

The man directs the knife at the throat of his spouse. His spouse is constrained and lost for words, awestruck at his spontaneous threat. She knows that any movement will exacerbate the dire situation.Trembling profusely and inadvertently wounding her throat, the man submits to guilt and retracts his knife.

    I have to comment that only your 2nd story meets the 50 word limit. Generally interesting characters and plot.
